If you are a medical student, junior doctor or a nurse in A&E and want to gain some basic ophthalmic examination skills then this event is for you!  Extensive knowledge is not a pre-requiste, but being familiar with some basic concepts would be advantageous.

How to take an ophthalmic history

Introduction to the slit lamp and the normal eye

Slit lamp 2 - patients with common problems

13.00 - 13.45

Lunch break

13.45 - 14.30

Understanding the visual pathway and visual field abnormalities

14.30 - 15.15

Eye lid lacerations and suturing

15.15 - 16.00

Ocular irrigation, foreign body and rust ring removal

16.00 - 16.30

Completion of evaluation forms and close

 

Target Audience / Suitability

Medical students, junior doctors interested in ophthalmology.  It would also be useful for doctors and nurse practioners working in Accident & Emergency or General Practice. Allied health professionals such as optometrists and orthoptists are also welcome.
