Annual Student and Trainee Ophthalmology Conference 2016

The annual student and trainee ophthalmic conference aims to increase awareness of ophthalmology as a specialty. It intends on giving advice to those who want to pursue a career in ophthalmology specialty training, from those involved in recruitment and to allow attendees to improve practical skills relevant to ophthalmology.

ASTOC Poster Presentation Prize 2016
ATSOC faculty welcome abstracts submission for the poster prize presentation to one of the following categories:

A.   Case presentations

 B.   Audits

 C.   Original research and/ or reviews.

 

Those chosen will be invited to prepare a poster to present at the ASTOC 2015 and compete for the prizes. The 250 word abstract should be submitted using this format:

 1. Presentation Category

 2.    Title

 3.    Authors (Presenter should be listed as primary author)

 4.    Affiliations (E.g. University of Edinburgh or Moorfields Eye Hospital)

 5.    Body of abstract

 

 A.   Abstracts for case reports  should contain:

·        Background

·         Case report

·         Conclusion

 B.   Abstracts for audits should follow the format:

·         Background

·         Aims and objectives

·         Methods

·         Results

·         Conclusion

C.   Abstracts for original research and/ or reviews should follow the format:

·         Background

·         Aims and objectives

·         Methods

·         Results

·         Conclusion

Abstracts for reviews should depict a summary of the article

 

Submission deadline is the 1st November 2016. Candidates will be notified of short listing before the 22nd of November 2016. Please note that it is not necessary to have had clinical exposure to ophthalmology to enter this competition. However, the work must not be older than one year and no published work will be accepted.

This year the ASTOC committee have teamed up with the Royal Free Hospital to offer one medical student or foundation year 1 doctor the prize of a fantastic sponsored trip to Uganda to undertake a project in the eye department at Mulago Hospital in Kampala. Flights and accommodation will be included.
